When it comes to explaining what Sustainability is, there are plenty of descriptions available. I like the National Geographics explanation,

Sustainability is the practice of using natural resources responsibly today, so they are available for future generations tomorrow.

And here is the United Nations’ definition of sustainability,

Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs

When I read the texts above, I think about the greater cause for the future of humanity, it is really simple, if natural resources are lost, we will perish. I will have to question anyone’s values if they see no issue with leaving future generations with a scarcity of natural resources. As you can understand, the value linked to sustainability is paramount for future generations. Unfortunately, at present, the value that most advanced economies place on sustainability is not aligned with the needs of the future of humanity.
